Mary, the Mother of God

Pastor Alms just posted a link regarding a new movie about Mary, the mother of our Lord. Looks interesting, though I never get my hopes up too much about secularly produced movies dealing with Scriptural content.

Pastor Alms is right in noting that the movie's title is Nestorian: Mary, the Mother of Christ. The phrase ascribed to Mary by the church is theotokos, "the bearer of God," or "the mother of God." For she didn't only carry the human nature of Jesus in her womb; she carried and gave birth to the very Son of God, whose natures as God and man are inseparably joined in one person.

Could they have picked a worse day in the church year to release a movie? I mean, Good Friday? Come on...

Agreed. It better not negatively affect church attendance!

A timely notice, Fr. Koch, considering that Monday, the 9th, was the Feast of Saint Cyril of Alexandria, who took on Nestorius so competently & courageously. I don't have LSB in front of me, so I'm not sure if Cyril is included in that book, but at St. Stephen's we celebrated the feast with the Holy Mass.

In LSB, St. Cyril is commemorated on June 27.

This is not surprising, for in this, as in so many other things, the decision makers of LSB take their example from the Missal of Pope Paul VI of 1969.
